In its 110 years of existence, Klabin has become Brazil’s largest producer, exporter and recycler of paper. Leader in the paper and board markets for packaging, corrugated packaging and industrial bags, the company also produces and trades wood in logs.

Its history began in 1899, when the Klabin and Lafer families founded Klabin Irmãos & Cia in São Paulo. In 1909, it already had its own factory: Companhia Fabricadora de Papel. In the 1920s, it was already among the largest paper producers in Brazil. The entrepreneurs' brand always sought innovation and, in 1934, with the foundation of Klabin do Paraná, it was founded the first integrated pulp and paper factory in the country.

This spirit guides the steps of the company to this day. Klabin is internationally recognized for the high-quality standards of its products and its deep respect for nature. Much of this success was due to the integration of responsibilities that take place inside and outside its 18 industrial units (17 in Brazil and 1 in Argentina), in the forests it preserves, in the communities it serves and, of course, with the shareholders it represents.

In its traditional culture of sustainable development - started in 1943 with the first experiences of reforestation - Klabin currently maintains 220 thousand hectares of pine and eucalypt planted forests and 188 thousand hectares of native forests, guaranteeing biodiversity and the balance of nature. There are 320 species of birds and 11 species of endangered mammals totally protected.

Klabin was also the first company in the world to receive the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certificate for the management of medicinal plants at its Phytotherapeutic Laboratory in the forests of Paraná. It was also the first to produce short fiber eucalyptus pulp with 100% certified raw material. Only in Monte Alegre farm there are 85,000 hectares of native forests, one of the largest conservation areas in the state. Research and Development has carried out soil studies, fertilization, silvicultural techniques, environmental management and genetic improvement, among others, to foster significant advances in the performance of forests.

Its contributions to recognized charities (Apae, Pastoral da Criança, Fundação Abrinq pelos Direitos da Criança, City governments, and so on) and the concepts distribution of ecological awareness fostered by teachers and students through school workshops, placing Klabin as one of the companies most concerned with the distribution of socially responsible practices.

In its industrial sector, the concern with the development of non-aggressive technologies to the environment is more evident. Each plant has equipment that guarantees the balance of the ecosystem of the region in which it is inserted. All company units follow the directives and actions of the Environmental Control Master Plan (PDCA), prepared by environmental conservation experts. In order to complement it, it is sponsor of several ecological projects and preservationists, intended to environmental education, waste recycling, landfill, among others.

On the other hand, its area of product development is focused on the needs of the market. Using state-of-the-art technology and processes to save costs, the company has guaranteed the constant evolution of its solutions. This is the case, for example, of packaging, currently made with 60% recycled raw material. With a product line divided into Paper, Paper Products and Wood, Klabin invests human and technological resources to bring to its consumer the quality that keeps it a market leader.
